Around Maison Gascony, in a hilly and wooded countryside with a Tuscan feel, there are many places to discover…

First the historic center of Auch, unmissable for its cathedral and its monumental staircase crowned with the statue of the illustrious child of the country D'Artagnan! But above all, you must let yourself be lulled by the charm of this authentic little town, tastefully restored throughout. Its market under the Hall and on the cathedral square on Saturday mornings offers you a moment to immerse yourself in local life where locals, neo-rurals and Anglo-Saxons coexist, unless you prefer to observe the gentle way of life in Gers. in the shade of a parasol on one of the numerous terraces of cafés and restaurants in the old town…

What is very appreciable in Auch is also this subtle mixture of heritage and contemporary art, never ostentatious, but which reminds us that we are indeed in the 21st century. And then it is so pleasant to take a break in the shade in the middle of summer, at the Cuzin or Ortholan garden, before or after a visit to the brand new Museum of the Americas (2nd collection of pre-Columbian art in France after the Quai Branly) or at the Memento contemporary art space.

Lovers of beautiful villages will not be left out! Larressingle, the smallest fortified village in France is definitely worth the detour, as is Bassoues which has a spectacular 14th century dungeon and a beautiful 16th century market hall. Fourcès, a unique round bastide whose houses create a theatrical setting of half-timberings and arcades. Lectoure, the Mecca of the Counts of Armagnac in the 14th century, is also worth a visit for its remarkable residences, its permanent flea market in the former castles of the Counts, its dapper boutiques and delicatessens of all kinds.

A stone's throw from the Gascony house is also the Flaran Abbey. In addition to the historic monument itself, it houses the Simonow private collection made up of works by Monet, Cézanne, Rodin, Dali, Delacroix, Rubens and Toulouse-Lautrec... a collection which is sure to surprise art lovers in the heart of the Gers countryside!

Gastronomes who love beautiful and good local products, every day you can stroll through a different market typical of the South-West. The prize goes to the Saint-Arailles cheese market in mid-June where the tastings are numerous, tasty and the atmosphere is so friendly!

Many festivals enliven the region in spring and summer. We particularly recommend the famous Jazz in Marciac…
